John Strong

John Strong is the lead soccer play-by-play voice for FOX Sports, calling the world’s biggest matches, including FIFA World Cups, Major League Soccer, U.S. Men’s National Team, UEFA Champions League Finals, Concacaf Gold Cup, Copa America, and more. He and Stu Holden led FOX’s coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, and his call of Darlington Nagbe’s goal for the Portland Timbers earned MLS “Broadcast Call of the Year” with nearly 2 million YouTube views. Strong began his career calling games at Lake Oswego High School before attending the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism, where he broadcasted Ducks soccer, softball, and lacrosse on KWVA. He became the Timbers’ voice before moving to NBC Sports and then FOX. Honored as Oregon Sportscaster of the Year, Strong’s journey from KWVA to calling World Cup Finals shows what’s possible with passion and hustle. Born and raised in Portland, he still lives there with his wife Nicole, a former pro soccer player, their two kids, and a house full of pets.
